U.S. EPA, Office of Water, Drinking Water Methods Technical Notes on Drinking Water Methods, recently developed methods from the Office of Research and Development and the Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water, and an alphabetical listing by contaminant with references to the corresponding method is available at http://www.epa.gov/ogwdw/methods/methods.html. National Environmental Publications Internet Site (NEPIS) - Methods are available directly online at http://www.epa.gov/cincl/. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM): Search for individual ASTM Standards, order the Annual Book of ASTM Standards, or search for technical publications and journals at the ASTM Store at http://www.astm.org/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/STORE/store.htm?E+mystore. U.S. EPA Index to EPA Test Method (May 2000 revised edition) A comprehensive list of all USEPA methods. It is a reference tool to help locate copies of the methods. The index is in PDF format at http://www.epa.gov/region1/info/testmethods/index.html. Measurement Technologies California Technology Certification Program This program, authorized by AB 2060 (1994), certifies the performance of hazardous waste environmental technologies. The site lists of all the Environmental Technology Certifications, along with the Technology Advisory which is a brief summary of the technology certified and the Certification Notice. The site also contains General Information regarding the program, Public Notices and Protocols. http://www.dtsc.ca.gov/TechnologyDevelopment/TechCert/. Lab Standards and Accreditation Programs Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) California Department of Public Health (formerly the California Department of Health Services) Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program provides accreditation of environmental testing laboratories. ELAP certifies laboratories that have demonstrated capability to analyze environmental samples using approved methods. Program information and a list of certified laboratories are provided at http://www.cdph.ca.gov/certlic/labs/Documents/ELAP-Lablist.xls. National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) NELAC is a voluntary association of State and Federal agencies with input from the private sector. Its purpose is to establish and promote mutually acceptable performance standards for the operation of environmental laboratories. The NELAC standards are available for downloading in PDF format at http://www.epa.gov/ttn/nelac/. National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) NVLAP, administered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), provides third-party accreditation to testing and calibration laboratories. Detailed program information and a list of accredited laboratories are provided at http://ts.nist.gov/Standards/scopes/programs.htm. American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) A2LA accredits both national and international laboratories in twelve broad fields including environmental. Program information and a list of accredited laboratories are available at http://www.a2la2.net/. Quality Guidance Data Quality Objectives (DQO) The DQO process is a planning tool for data collection activities. It provides a basis for balancing decision uncertainly with available resources. The site helps users develop DQO's and implement the DQO process. http://dqo.pnl.gov/ EPA Agency-wide Quality System Documents EPA agency-wide Quality System Documents, with the status of the document and a brief document description, are available for downloading in PDF at http://www.epa.gov/quality1/qa_docs.html. Environmental Societies and Organizations American Chemical Society Division of Environmental Chemistry Site has Program and Division of Environmental Chemistry information. It also has DQO-PRO software that facilitates understanding the significance of DQOs by showing the relationships between numbers of samples and DQO parameters.
