Watson Gin, Deputy Director, Hazardous Waste Management

DTSC Deputy Director, Hazardous Waste Management, Watson GinWatson Gin is the Department of Toxic Substances Control's Deputy Director for Hazardous Waste Management. After serving the Department in various capacities for more than 15 years, Mr. Gin was appointed to this position in August 2000. He now manages one of the essential programs in the Department. His staff is responsible for ensuring that companies and individuals in California handle, transport, store, treat, and dispose of hazardous wastes appropriately.

Mr. Gin operates permitting, inspection, compliance, and corrective action programs to ensure that people who manage hazardous wastes follow state and federal requirements. In addition, his staff looks for ways to reduce the amount and toxicity of hazardous wastes produced through very active highly successful source reduction and pollution prevention efforts. Mr. Gin is also responsible for implementing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's federal hazardous waste management program in California.
