Prior to her appointment as Chief Counsel, Ms. Yelland served as a senior litigator in private practice for fifteen years, with an emphasis in environmental law. She then served as senior staff counsel at CalPERS for two years, specializing in cases involving the Public Employees' Retirement Law.
Ms. Yelland provided advice on the environmental and toxic tort liabilities associated with industrial operations and commercial property in California. She has specialized in complex civil litigation on a wide variety of environmental issues, including water contamination, toxic torts, premises liability, land use, CEQA and contract disputes. She appeared before state and federal courts, in administrative hearings, and completed many alternative dispute resolutions.
Ms. Yelland graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, and received her J.D. from the University of San Francisco.
