The Sacramento Regional Science & Engineering Fair is a fun and exciting way for middle and high school students in the greater Sacramento region to go beyond their classroom studies. The Fair allows students to put their skills to the test in the fields of computer science, environmental science, medicine & health, chemistry and many other categories.

Return to Top Green Chemistry Special Award Evaluation Criteria Sacramento Regional Science and Engineering Fair 1. Relevance to any of the 12 green chemistry principles. The best projects will address and incorporate one more of the 12 principles. 2. Is there any human health or environmental benefit addressed by the project? Issues that could be explored include for example: · Reduced toxicity (acute or chronic) of a substance or a decrease in the potential for illness or injury to humans, animals, or plants. · Reduced flammability or explosion potential. · Reduced use or generation of hazardous substances, the transport of hazardous substances, or releases to air, water, or land. · Improved use of natural resources, for example, by substituting a renewable feedstock for a petrochemical feedstock. 3. Creative ability, does the project show some originality? 4. Scientific thought, are principles of the scientific method adhered to and does the data support the conclusion given. Use scientific citations not just popular literature. 5. Thoroughness, how aware of the current research and perhaps competing theories are the competitors. Was the purpose carried out to completion and does it address the original intent. 6. Clarity, how clear is the information presented and how well do the competitors understand their project? 7. Teamwork (for team prize only)
