MERCURY THERMOSTAT COLLECTION ACT OF 2008 On January 1, 2006, State of California law banned the sale of new mercury-added thermostats for most uses. The Mercury Thermostat Collection Act of 2008 requires manufacturers to establish a collection and recycling program individually or with other manufacturers for out of service mercury-added thermostats. The Mercury Thermostat Collection Act of 2008 delineates specific requirements of those involved with the manufacture, sale, installation and eventual disposal of mercury-added thermostats. MERCURY DIOSTAT BAN IS NOW IN EFFECT On January 1, 2008, the ban on the sale and distribution of mercury diostats took effect. Common products that may be affected by this ban include but not limited to, household appliances such as gas ranges, heaters, and ovens.
