Dr. Arezoo Campbell is an Associate Professor at Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) and an Associate Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). In 1999, she received her Ph.D. in Toxicology and continued as a Postdoctoral Scholar at UCI. From 2002 to 2006, she was an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Community and Environmental Medicine (UCI). Her research focus was metal-induced neurotoxic responses. In 2006 Dr. Campbell joined the faculty at WesternU, College of Pharmacy. The main focus of her research is to determine how environmental exposures cause aberrant induction of innate immune responses that may accelerate the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. Currently her lab is investigating the mechanism by which particulate matter, present in air pollution, may cause neurotoxicity in normal human brain cells. Her research is funded by the British Petroleum/Southern California Air Quality Management District (BP/SCAQMD).
