  • DTSC helped investigate Dollar Tree Stores, resulting in a $2.72 million settlement for alleged illegal disposal of hazardous waste.
  • California's Safer Consumer Products program is on a mission to reduce toxic chemicals in everyday products, says the Natural Resource Defense Council in a new blog post.
  • DTSC will hold a community workshop May 6 in Los Angeles about closure of the Exide Technologies facility in Vernon, results of soil sampling in neighborhoods near the facility and how community members can become involved with the closure.

April 16, 2015

  • DTSC is seeking members for the Exide Advisory Committee for safe closure of the Exide Technologies facility in Vernon and cleanup of surrounding residential properties. Community members interested in working with DTSC and other agencies responsible for protecting and informing the public during the closure and cleanup can sign up here.
  • Meredith Williams, DTSC's Deputy Director of Safer Products and Workplaces Program, writes in an Op-Ed in The Sacramento Bee that DTSC is working with other state agencies to ensure that the foam insulation in people's homes is both energy efficient and safe to install.
  • DTSC will broadcast the April 17, 2015 quarterly public meeting online. If you can't attend the meeting, you can to submit questions via email and Twitter.
  • DTSC's final public workshop on the draft SEPs Policy is set for April 17 in Monterey.

April 9, 2015

  • A Santa Clara precious metal and electronic waste recycler, ECS Refining, will pay DTSC a $220,000 fine for alleged hazardous waste violations.

April 2, 2015

  • DTSC's Emergency Response team helps clean up hazardous waste at the site of the Round Fire in Mono County.
  • A Rancho Cucamonga company paid DTSC a $6,800 fine to settle allegations for violations for mismanagement of E-Waste. Vintage Tech Recyclers LLC agreed to pay the penalty for allegations that it disposed of cathode ray tube glass and printed circuit boards into trash containers.
  • DTSC is hosting a community meeting April 9 to share information about the safe closure of Exide Technologies and cleanup of surrounding communities. For more information, click here.
  • DTSC's  Quarterly Public Meeting will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 9 a.m. in the Coastal Hearing Room at the Cal/EPA building, 1001 I Street, Sacramento, CA Second Floor.
