January 21, 2016

  • DTSC recently boosted the cooperation between the US and China on environmental issues with a Sacramento meeting between DTSC and the Guangzhou City Bureau of Environmental Protection. The meeting was highlighted by an overview of DTSC programs including the Safer Consumer Products Program, the Hazardous Waste Management Program, the Permitting Process and the Brownfields and Environmental Restoration programs.

January 14, 2016

  • DTSC and the California Attorney General's Office announced this week that Pacific Steel, Inc., a scrap metal recycle in National City, will pay $138,000 dollars to settle hazardous waste violations.
  • Maven's Notebook recently focused on DTSC's new Safer Consumer Products regulations discussing how the new regulations shift responsibility to manufacturers to seek safer alternatives for harmful ingredients in consumer products.
  • DTSC's Karl Palmer, Chief of the Safer Consumer Products Bran, was quoted in an Orange County Register story on the eco-friendliness of cleaning products.
  • The Cal Compact Landfill site in Carson is now looking to commercial prospects for its 157-acre space after losing a recent bid for an NFL stadium.

  • The next Independent Review Panel meetings are scheduled for Jan. 13 and 14 in Sacramento. You can view the agenda here.
  • DTSC is helping to rebuild communities in the aftermath from last year's California's devastating wildfires.
  • Francesca Negri was sworn in as chief deputy director of DTSC on Jan. 4, 2016. Negri previously served as chief at the California Department of Transportation, Division of Procurement and Contracts from 2010 to 2016.
